We did this hike Saturday, October 24. Present company was Sandy, Katy, Kyle (Katy’s boyfriend) and me.
We started at 8:30 on the trailhead. It was cold and frost was still on the ground. We were on the north face of the mountain the entire time so we had no chance of sun.
The hike itself was really gentle. It was 7.4km to the lake and was a fairly easy (not steep) path. It was wide enough for 2 people to walk side by side comfortably. We only hiked to the lake as a few members of our party were not experienced. The views were amazing and even though it was just a forest walk.
When we got to the lake, it was frozen a bit around the edges. Sandy and I walked around the lake which took about an hour (looked smaller than it was). Whe n we got back, I boiled some water and we had some hot chocolate to warm up (I made the hot chocolate powder from scratch).
We made our way back down fairly quick. The entire trip took 6.5 hours.
In summary:
If you want a nice easy hike, do the lake. If you want a bit more of a challenge, go to Harvey Lake. The summit would be a good hike but long and intermediate.
